My blogging has been rather limited into the New Year. But today I had to simply make time. That's because this is only the third Olympics that the U.S. Women's Bobsled Team have had a sled of any kind (they won Gold in 2002 and Silver in 2006). This year, we have three sleds entered in competition! On the heels of my previous posts of 11/30/09 ("Bree Schaaf and Bobsledding"), 12/02/09 ("Emily Azevedo & Bobsledding"), 12/04/09 ("Bobsledding Passion") and 12/06/09 ("Women's 2-Man Bobsled World Cup Results") it's a thrill for us to keep in mind who the drivers and brakemen are that will be representing our country. Each country is allowed to bring 2 bobsleds. Those that are allowed to bring a third have to have one of the top two rankings in the world of all the number 3 bobsleds after they have finished their season. USA 1 will be driven by 2006 Silver medalist Shauna Rohbock with brakeman Michelle Rzepka. USA II will be driven by Erin Pac with brakeman Elana Meyers. USA III will be driven by Bree Schaaf with brakeman Emily Azevedo.

The year 1999 was significant for me (I earned my college degree that year). But it was significant for other reasons related to sports. In October, 1999 the International Olympic Committee added Women's Bobsleigh (in the U.S. we call it Bobsled) to the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah. Accordingly, the first-ever Women's Olympic Bobsled Competition took place in Park City, Utah at Olympic Park in February, 2002. Jill Bakken and Vonetta Flowers earned the Gold Medal for the United States. In 2006, Shauna Rohbock and Valerie Fleming earned the Silver Medal for the United States.-
Mark your calendars for February 23rd and 24th when the Women's 2-Man Bobsled will be televised. Universal Sports will cover the races, or you can go to www.universalsports.com. Take a good look at our team in the photo above. All year-long, indeed, in the years leading up to the Olympics they have trained hard. They have heart and soul. They are ready. And we will be pulling for them one-hundred percent! Another good place to follow team race results and learn more about our drivers and push talent (particularly in the interim, is on www.fibt.com.) Delayed video of previous races is also available by engaging their On Demand Streaming.-

We'll focus on the Men's Bobsled Team USA shortly!

19 Comments:
Looking forward to it. Now if the men's teams could be as successful.
PM: The Men's 4 Man Bobsled Team hasn't won in 62 years. But I believe this year they will do well! Meantime, we have an excellent Women's Team USA...outstanding!!!:)
since bree and emily are left coasters, i'm going to cheer them on. but i wish all three teams well. it sounds like fun.
I wish them luck, just a little.
We have our teams in too yeah know.
I love watching the Olympics, summer or winter.
Its a great way to have fun and get to know the rest of the world
Seraphine: I'm not sure what "left coasters" means. But I do know this. Driving or Brakeman: it's all hard work, and these girls are very Determined! :)
Walker: These girls are Inspiring! The nature of this sport is really quite exciting. Cheers! :)
Yay team! I hope (and think) they will do well. Thanks for a great update and info!
PBS: Nice of you to stop by. I have tremendous confidence in our team also! Take care. :)
unless you read your map upside down, which is a known navigational hazard, the west coast is located on the left side of the map and the east coast is on the right.
hence, those who live in the west are known as left-coasters.
i know, it's a rather obscure reference, like being on top of the world. or at the bottom.
Seraphine: (I get it now)...:D))!
I know - way off topic, but I just had to share this bit of Steve McQueen with you:

Martini: Very nice. I remembered this from Chad and Matt's book. There is a common thread here with Bobsledding: Speed!
Thanks!
Michael
USAUSAUSAUSAUSA. I really enjoy the women's sports at the olympics more than the mens. These ladies will make us proud. Women's ice hockey is a sport to look to as well.
Completely unrelated to this I just subscribed to a years worth of Airways magazine. I figured I'd save a few bucks over what I pay each month...
DJ Davy B: A 'first' for me...a comment from a race car driver and pilot about Women's Bobsledding. Excellent! :)
Well, you know my sentiments. These girls are exceptional really and they will make us proud no matter what.
Airways: My Editor-In-Chief will be thrilled. I have two exciting interviews "in the can" for 2010 that you will love! No names yet... Thanks, Davy!
What very brave women, I don't think I could do this race.
all this rain and snow down here in california, and nary a drop up there in vancouver, canada.
so they are furiously making "machine snow" for the olympic competitions.
p.s. can't comebody please invent a machine to make a nice white-sand beach in my backyard (that is also cat resistant)?
Seraphine: We actually had two days of downpours and destructive winds here in Phoenix. The high country (Flagstaff) had over 2 feet of snow last Friday. Amazing!
i've been in phoenix during a 'downpour.' it's amazing how much rain can fall all at once. within minutes, the streets were flooded.
we've had something like 10 or 11 straight days of rain. depending on where in northern california one is measuring, we got between 8 and 14 inches of rain in that time period.
and it's *nothing* like the rain you get in phoenix. woosh.
Seraphine: We typically get 6 inches of rain annually. A State of Emergency was declared here. It's nice when it comes during 118 degree summer weather. "Woosh"! :)
