MY FAVORITE TIME OF DAY!

Above, a friend helps me celebrate!
Dusk has always been a magical time of the day for me. No matter what events may have transpired in a given 24-hour period, it is Dusk that brings to me a quiet, soothing period of calm and peaceful reflection. If the day has gone particularly well, it is the end cap of celebration. If the day has been challenging, Dusk reminds me that circumstances can swing back from Tough to Terrific. I am resuming the Giving Thanks Challenge initiated by Protege's friend, Leah over at South Breeze Farm. The focus is to post something you feel grateful about during the month of Thanksgiving. This is a very nice exercise because it helps us to reconsider our many blessings!

Thanksgiving: I am grateful for my favorite time of the day: Dusk.

I agree with you; to me it has always been the *in between parts* of the day and night that hold the most magic; twilight of the morning, just when the night ends and just before the sun rises and dusk, just before the night arrives. Living in Scandinavia, these periods are much extended in the summers and can last for hours.

Yes, things are always more special when the light is low and fading and the time to rest approaches...

I would enjoy dusk, if only people weren't speeding home from work and disrupting the peacefulness. I like early morning the best, when people aren't quite up yet, and everything is quiet.

I live on a quiet little street. I leave my house first thing in the morning walk to the end of the block and turn left on my way to school. While I'm on my blog I can hear the birds singing and all is calm. When I turn the corner I walk into traffic noise and the hustle and bustle of everyone trying to get into the school parking lot or drop their kid off. It's total chaos. I've seen scenes in movies where they do that and it has impact. I walk into it every school morning. The only thing that makes the chaos worth it is the sunrise I also walk into. The sky's red against the clouds and a new day begins. By December it's dark and the sunrise comes during first period. It's not the same.

Martini: I hear you! Here in Phoenix, unfortunately, we lead the nation in the number of intersection fatalities. Early mornings sound best for the DMC 12! :)

PM: You paint a vivid picture! I actually had a college professor in night school suddenly stop the class he was teaching, raise the blinds at the windows and say: "People, I have to stop here. Do you ever just sit in awe of what a beautiful sunset God has created. It was fantastic! :)

I ABSOLUTELY agree. There is some sort of peaceful feeling at that time of day.I'm like an older lady when I sit on the porch at dusk and feeling the air in my hair and skin. It's soothing and good thinking time, huh?
I also like the few days that are clear and cool.not too hot...not too cold.It does something to your spirits, huh?

What a beautiful image. I love what I sometimes refer to as the magic hour. A bit earlier than dusk, when shadows are long and the trees, flowers, fields.. everything is super-saturated with golden sunlight. It almost feels other-worldly to me, and of course culminates with a beautiful dusk such as yours above. That photo is just perfect. Thanks for that. :)

Well said Michael. And of course you know I just love photos of horses! And dusk sure is a beautiful time as the day slowly ends turning from dusk to a starlite evening.
