INFANT CAR SEAT SAFETY!

Good Morning!

Last night I was working out on a recumbent bike with the flat screen TV turned on in my apartment workout room when a television commercial came on about infant child seat safety. I had no idea that research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that as many as 80 percent of all car seats are improperly installed and used. Eighty percent. Wow! It's a significant factor in why automobile accidents are the number-one killer of children under 14. And where I live here in Phoenix, we lead the entire nation in traffic intersection fatalities. In fact, I saw a crash just down the street on my way home from work and phoned paramedics immediately. But wait! There's a simple solution for protecting children!-
On the way home from the hospital, new parents should make it a point to stop at any fire station where fire fighters will be happy to show you how to properly secure an infant's car seat in the back seat of your automobile. What could be a better solution? I thought it was great and wanted to Blog about it briefly this morning. Here's to each of you to have a safe and enjoyable weekend! Michael

if car seats are that dangerous, i'm going to hold mine in my lap where they'll be safe!
nonononono. i'm only kidding. i don't have children.
that's a great suggestion, Michael. it might save a life and/or save someone from unimaginable heartbreak.
Seraphine: lol! Fire Fighters are Heroes and they are generous with suggestions like this. I'm not married with kids yet, but this was such a cool suggestion.
Good point, Michael. But if they're correctly used, they can be lifesavers and make the child safer than other passengers. I remember talking to firefighters who responded to a wreck on I-15 in which the only kids to survive were those in child seats--because they had extra protection. Another problem is that seatbelts are designed for those over 80 pounds, which means kids need booster seats until they're that size (my daughter was 11 before she was close enough for us to let her go without a booster seat). Good post!
Sage: Good to see you back and thank you for your visit, as always my friend! :)
wonderful suggestion. i can't believe how far we've come with child seat instructions. i remember when they let you have kiddies in the front.
Great post!
have a lovely weekend ^_^
Jessica never rode in a car without her car seat and neither does Emmy. Thanks for this needful post, Michael, and have a great weekend, my friend. :o)
Love and hugs,
Diane
Marj: When I was Trevor's age, my mom drove this big Ford automobile and it had no seat belts. Yeah, it was used. I stood up on the bench seat next to her and she held her right arm across me to brace for sudden stops. When Red Lights turned Green, I'd yell "BLAST OFF!" and scared the hell out of her. What can I say. I was very spirited! :D) lol to you Marj! YOU ROCK!!
Diane: Of course, I'll have to drop by for your Sunday Dinner recipie. Love and Hugs my good friend! :)
