AMELIA BY JONI MITCHELL

This has really been a helluva two weeks. How often I have thought back to a telephone conversation I had one night with Denny Shane! He asked me this question very slowly and deliberately: "Do you have any earthly idea how long it takes me to create a blog?" I guessed vaguely, and of course I was wrong. His answer was "Try over three hours". I believe it, because I live this reality myself more often than not.

Last night, I was contemplating many things. My copy of Guy Clark's CD "Workbench Songs" arrived in the mailbox. I was playing it through half-way and created a short humorous BLOG to post. Then circumstances being what they are, I stumbled upon this video. It made sense, so I posted it. Consistency has it's place, sure. Why not stay with a theme and round out the week? But this video is just amazing for so many reasons to me. Amazing to see Joni Mitchell performing this song "live". Amazing to see a guitar played in a way I've never seen before by anyone. Amazing for the complex sonic quality of chords that come from God only knows where? Amazing lyrics woven together with breathtaking validity: Aviation, Amelia Earhart, and the emotional landscape of our own archetypal journeys. That's why I posted it. Have a great weekend, and as an elderly widow told me at a nearby coffee bar last year", "You know, there really is a Santa Claus".

truth is a hard thing to define. there is, for instance, literal truth, which most people profess to be comfortable with.
and there are personal truths, which take some digging and introspection to burnish.
there is mythical truth and cultural truth, both of which are imbedded into our consciousness by society and upbringing.
there are other truths, to be sure.
my point being, to deny the existence of santa claus is to deny at least one truth, which makes the arguement that there is no santa claus insensitive and unplausible.

Wonderful series on Joni Mitchell. Brought back memories and now I have to go to Amazon.com and spend money I don't have... or at least put some stuff in my shopping cart for later.

Enjoyed your Arabian piece too. Brought back memories of one of my favorite authors from childhood - Marguerite Henry. Beautifully illustrated and wonderfully written books about horses.

Green tea: lol! Not at all. I'm very fortunate to be surrounded by so many great people like you! :)

Raven: See? Now you have jogged my own memory about the writer Marguerite Henry. lol! I will look her up. I just received Joni's "Shine" CD in the mailbox last night and loved following her lyrics over early morning coffee. She is a Joy for so many of us! Makes the world make a bit more sense to me. And so do you, dear friend! :)

I've finally gotten back to watch the video--love it--and the photos looking back on Mitchell's life (of course, any video that starts with a drive across the desert has me hooked at the beginning).

Hope this week will allow both of us to take a breather.

Sage: She's a lovely lady and I'm thinking probably a fun person to talk to as well! Yeah, a slower week would be welcomed. I agree! :)
