LEO BUSGAGLIA & 4 THOUGHTS...
Note from Michael: Well, as Simon Oakland said to Steve McQueen in Bullitt after that famous car chase: "What the hell is going on here?" Basically, I loved all of those PBS Television lectures from the late Leo Buscaglia, Ph.D. I've reached the decision that our society, particularly in these tough economic times needs to first consider the "naked emotion" Kris Kristofferson sings about in "You Show Me Yours, And I'll Show You Mine". Maybe we all need a Cosmic 2' X 4' to hit us so we can start treating each other better. But I digress a little...This is a book you can buy for under $4 (US) in "used" condition (who isn't) on Amazon.com. Worth a read and here's what it is about: -
Leo Buscaglia deals with the dynamics of human relationships and our fears of commitment. He points out that society's flippant and suspicious attitudes toward tenderness, compassion, caring, sharing and love, has created detached, apathetic people. The book contains the results of an extensive relationship survey.
-
"Love is always open arms. If you close your arms about love you will find that you are left holding only yourself".
"Love is life. And if you miss love, you miss life".
"I have a very strong feeling that the opposite of love is not hate - it's apathy. It's not giving a damn".
"What we call the secret of happiness is no more a secret than our willingness to choose life".

Where do I know Leo's name from? He is familiar to me and not by those quotes either.... Hmmmm...
Hope you had a wonderful Easter Michael!
It's a good phrase from 'Bullitt'.
Afternoon, Patti! The short answwer is go to: www.buscaglia.com.
Leo was as familiar as Oprah at one time on PBS Television. An Educator with the University of Southern California, he designed a Class called "Love 101". His lectures were warm, funny, extremely energetic and infused with tremendous wisdom as Leo had a true passion for helping others get as much living out of their journeys in life as possible. I suspect you have seen a re-run of one of his lectures. Sadly, he died in 1998. But he remains a favorite of mine!
Jean-Luc Picard: :D)!

Jess: Jim sang the best version, of course! Thanks for your love ALWAYS!!!:)
Hi Michael.
Our ideology can sometimes harm our ability to love and be responsive to others and to nature; to be the source of meaning to life. Love is also about learning to love which develops over time, just as melodies and changing tastes in music allow us to love a much wider repertoire as we hear or learn more.
I know you go out of your way to see the total picture, to avoid the one sided ideologies and to bring an even handed perspective to your reporting which encapsulates your own love of life, as you have with latest post about the book with excellent quotes.
lindsaylobe: I was very glad to read your thoughtful note! Thanks again lindsay!
"Love is always open arms. If you close your arms about love you will find that you are left holding only yourself".
except that some people don't even know how to hold themselves either. they have no self-esteem, no confidence, no self-worth. they don't love themselves. or they only feel valued if they perceive others value them- even undeservedly.
i'm a believer in that old addage/cliche: you have to love yourself first.
and sometimes that's the hardest thing to learn.
Seraphine: This may just be the most incredible message I've received! YOU ROCK!!!!
I particularly like the last quote in that I often find that people don't realize that they have the ability to make themselves happy -- it's just a matter of whether they choose to do so.
Becky: I am just now grasping this for myself and yes, it IS a choice to do so. I'm glad that I made this decision. lol!!!:D)
