MY RUBY TUESDAY STORY!

Chances are good that my Blog bud Diane J. will remember this story too. Back in 2007, I sauntered into a Ruby Tuesday restaurant on (what else?) a Tuesday night. That's when Ned, the Bartender was on duty. On this evening, I sat at the bar to order dinner and a Grey Goose Vodka Screwdriver when across the small partitioned room, I spotted an absolutely beautiful young girl with shimmering blond hair who was obviously on a date. I asked Ned about her and learned that the girl was from Finland and the couple had met as exchange students. They had known each other for at least a year, if not longer. When she smiled, she lit up the room and was genuinely delightful. By the end of my meal, I asked Ned to get me a Fine Point Sharpie pen and a piece of white cardboard paper. He left the bar and returned about five minutes later. From his smile, I knew that he was curious about what I had in mind. This is roughly what I wrote after observing the couple on and off through my meal.

My Friend: LIfe is very short. It is very fragile and very precious. Take it from an older guy who knows a few things about people in love. If the girl who is sitting with you at your table is even remotely as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside, you'd be a damn fool not to propose to her TONIGHT.

After paying my tab, I gave Ned a $20 bill as a separate tip. "Ned, I'm going to need your help", I said. "I want you to watch me walk out of here. As soon as I hit the front door, walk over to the couple's table and hand the guy this note. He's from here, so he can obviously read English. Make sure he reads this. I'll be back Thursday to find out how things went". From the look on Ned's face, he obviously had never done anything like this in his life! I walked out into the parking lot and hurried to my car to make a getaway. What happened after I left?

Ned shook his head, pocketed the $20 bill and watched me walk to the Front Door. Immediately, he approached the couple and handed the surprised young man my note. The man smiled and asked where I went. Ned stood there and told him I had "a plane to catch"! The blond girl excitedly asked her boyfriend for a look at the note. By now, Ned had retreated to the bar and watched this "back and forth" routine go on with the couple laughing and sparring for 10 full minutes. Ultimately, the boyfriend surendered my note to her. I understand that when she finally read it, she was was ecstatic and there was much animated conversation and giggling! A week later, they returned for dinner and told Ned they had become engaged. The blond girl had laminated my note and kept it in her purse. I'd like to think she still has it. That night was a high point in my life, and it's a true story!

WELCOME TO THURSDAY!

Yup, I remember this incident too. I wonder if they got married and if they're still together. The romantic in me would like to think so. :o)
Happy Thursday to you as well, Michael.
xoxoxoxo
Diane
That is one heck of a great story!
Diane: They did wed and they are thoroughly, deeply, madly in love. I hope my nudge helped. I've seen too many people "blow it" and the suffering for doing so can be life-long. My instincts told me this was simply the right thing to do. xoxoxoxo! :D
D-Man: Thanks! It was a rare moment in time and that was one of the best things that happened to me. Dreams can and do come true, and this couple is living proof!
your heart is beautiful.
im BLESSED to call you friend.
Girl Rants: Nicest compliment I have heard in a long, long time. Wow! Thank You! I am BLESSED to know you, my friend. Take care! :)
That story is so great is almost sounds like it was dreamed up in Hollywood. Two Martini thumbs up!
A great story, Michael!
Martini: I Toast You with a Lemmondrop! Cheers!!!:)
Captain Picard: A great couple! I was merely a catalyst who saw that they were on the cusp of potentially blowing Life's Greatest Gift. Perhaps they would have been just fine had I not interceded with that note of urgency. But I felt there should be no room left to chance. This is one story I will allow myself to feel proud of, "with a wink and a nod"!
nice story michael. you da man.
DJ Davy B: Hey...Thanks, my friend. I'm limited, but I try. That's about it, really. :)
Awwww Michael,
That's so romantic!! I was just wondering what my Ex-boyfriend (of 8 1/2 years) would have done if he would have gotten a note like that, and it dawned on me another reason why he is my EX! Ray would have chased you out the door to fight.Being the jealous nut he was...but that guy you sent that to was definately a cool dude. And so are you....Mr.Romantic!!
Hey, Tammi: Lots of Love to you! I was pained reading about the jealous Ex. You deserve a healthier guy!
These kids were operating out of Love and not Fear, so I was able to reach them. My concern was that if he took a comfy situation for granted, she might have moved on and I still think my instincts were right. You Rock, Tammi! "Mr. Romantic"...I like that! SMILING!!! :D)
What you did is known as "Angel Unaware." It was a really nice thing to do.
P M: You know, I've never heard of that term. But I am very grateful for your compliment! They were a fun couple and it worked out! :)
i love stories like this. it restores my faith in humanity and romance.
you're right, life is short and too often we don't realize the treasure in that.
Only you..Michael! Only you! That is a WONDERFUL story - a true "Michael Manning" story! I will never forget it and I KNOW they won't either!
Seraphine: Never in my life have I seen so many people turn their back on others and on life. It amazes me how swept up they become. This was a pleasure for me to bring forth a story about two people who "made time". lol! :)
Hey Patti! lol! I have actually never thought about whether or not they think about the stranger eating dinner at the bar 20 feet away or not--until you mentioned it. Well, that IS a nice thought isn't it? Only You Patti!!!!:D)
That's such a cute story -- maybe you can pass a note along to Ted :)
Oh Micheal, this story made me grin from ear to ear. And it make me want a Grey Goose vodka and tonic. ;)
Becky: DONE! :D)
Lisa: lol! Coming right up...Will that be a Tall or Short Glass? :D)
what was it that yogi guy said? don't turn your back on anyone, because they might be gaining on you?
Seraphne: The great baseball pitcher Sachel Page! lol! :) Maybe you could try communicating this to women I've tried to date lately and throw in a few sage words about the "Cosmic 2 X 4"...nah, don't bother. Just kidding. You get it and that is SO refreshing!!! YOU ROCK!
Great story
Soemthing I might do but the note would have gone to the girl and I;d be married to her but its close LOL
Sometimes a nudge is what people need to wake them up or a kick in the pants what ever makes the deliverier happy
Walker: I hope that people who have shut down emotionally from past losses can read this and get to a good therapist. They must "fix themselves" and realize that there is HOPE! If they don't, sadly, they will be speeding along in a proverial "one way train" track only to be met (eventually) by an oncoming train and it will get very ugly. For these people who believe there is an end-point of happiness operating this way, they will find none. But for the couple in my story, God Bless Em! They took a chance an d accepted responsibility for taking that risk as my dear friend Barbara Leigh mentioned in "THE INTERVIEW". Priceless!
