ONE WEEK AGO THIS SUNDAY!
There is a lot for me to enjoy about this film. Ben Johnson was cast here immediately after "The Last Picture Show". Everything about McQueen's character suggests that age is closing in on his career as a rodeo champion. He's a rugged individualist and a loner who "goes his own way". I have never quoted another reviewer here in my Blog, but the following comments really struck me. They come to the point about this film that has been steadily enjoying a renaissance since 2000. This reviewer sums up why I like McQueen's work and this film: "All I know is that his best work was done in roles like this one, when he portrays characters that are out of their proper time, and misplaced in a world that no longer values and has no place for honor, integrity, courage, loyalty, honesty, humility, dedication, or even knows where they come from. When I watch a Steve McQueen film like this one it makes me feel good. It's not because he is always the victor, or because the "bad guys" are always defeated, but because he makes trying to live by those ideals, and never giving up, look so honorable and so noble that it makes me want to keep trying, too. He makes me feel that it's better to live life his way, and be a loser, than to be a success in a world without feeling, meaning, or emotion".

Just stopped by to say hello! I found you through a new friends blog. I love reading so tonight I thought I would do some blog hopping! You are a very talented person!! :)
Jill: What a nice note! Thank you very much for the visit and your kind words of support. :)
Sometimes the bull wins...
d-man: Watch and see. :D)
honor, integrity, courage, loyalty, honesty, humility, dedication
wow, schools should have taught those as virtues, along with their current curriculum of reading, writing and robbery. the economy and state of the world might have been better for the lesson.
ummm. but in the video, he checks his car's oil with his fingers.
nononono.
did you notice that?
Morning, Seraphine: Steve was a tough guy and much of what he did with this character was very, very close to the man himself. Believe it or not, I too have checked the oil dip stick like this, but do I recommend it? No, no. Re: Curriculum: Back when I was in high school, this was the order of the day and I quite agree with you. Thnkfully, it wasn't lost on me! I'll be over to check out what you're up to! ;-)
Sounds like the life of many of the traveling show person - living on the outside - and living for their own truth in a world that they just don't seem to fit in.
Great post Michael
Glenn Bishop
Glenn: Yes, that's it. Have a good weekend, my friend!
Michael I came by again to read some of your posts... an hour later I am still here reading! :) How do you keep up with all this! You are one busy man! As for your little friend Trevor my prayers go out to him. I have two children with medical problems. My two year old daughter has a rare syndrome called CDLS. We have spent half her life at the Ronald McDonald house so she can get the best care at the nearby hospital. If you ever need a laugh come by my blog!!
Congrats on the change in pants size;-) ,tis a great feeling isnt it! I didnt know you were a tad on the fluffy side too !;-)
I can not remember how long ago I have even thought of this movie , wow , it is good one and so long ago , time flies .
You have a great weekend Michael, and keep at it , keeping out of the fluff cycle I mean haha,LOL !
Take care
greeneyes
Best to you, too dear Michael!
Greeneyes: Ah, how funny. I've never thought about myself on "Fluff Cycle". But I HAVE been spending a lot of time with my Washer and Dryer. So, maybe some of it has washed off on me? :D)
Evening, Patti! You'll have to catch me up on Charleston, since I know you and Stacy were there for R & R! I'll stop over!!
Swing by to catch up and let you know AGAIN what an awesome person you are.As you read in my last post(which I edited) I'm a total loser at times....Your so positive and such a good example for ppl.Thank you so much for reaching out to me when all I felt like doing was dieing.
You have a HUGE heart,hun.
Tammi: You're no loser. Just a great girl. We all have our days. The sun rises tomorrow. New day, new beginnings. Always great to see you stop by! :)
That's a good review and I bet it's exactly what YOU would have said about the movie!
Will you be sending an entry to the Christmas Party? You can talk to Karena if you do!
pbs: Close enough. It's a pleasant, uncomplicated movie with Steve's natural charisma. He was stung by the poor box office numbers and soon after brought Sam Peckinpah a new project "The Getaway". The rest, as they say (and of course we all who 'they' are) is history. Smiles, PBS! :D)
jean-luc picard: Today, in fact. Yes. What is Karena's marital status, though? ;>
I always liked Steve McQueen's movies.
I think I may have seen all of his accept "The Blob" LOL
Good to see ya pick up one of the lesser known flicks. Its been awhile since I stopped by. Hockey season in full swing now!
dj davy b: Funny you stopped by. I read a paragraph on the 1965 Ford GT 40 and her last wins in 1968 and 1969 at Le Mans. Saw the street concept car up close a few years back, but it was chained off and therefore, I couldn't have a seat inside and just imagine!
Nice to hear from you! Tell Pamela I said "lol" :)
late for work, as per usual. ha.
but i NEEDED to pop in and thank you for your neverending support and friendship.
CHUG~A~LUGGERS ROCK
