1925-2008

“I wish I could recall with clarity the impulse that compelled me to help bring this camp into being. I’d be pleased if I could announce a motive of lofty purpose. I’ve been accused of compassion, of altruism, of devotion to Christian, Hebrew, and Moslem ethic, but however desperate I am to claim ownership of a high ideal, I cannot. I wanted, I think, to acknowledge Luck; the chance of it, the benevolence of it in my life, and the brutality of it in the lives of others, made especially savage for children because they may not be allowed the good fortune of a lifetime to correct it.” – Paul Newman Founder, Hole in the Wall Gang Camp & Newman's Own
Actor, Director, Producer, Philanthropist, & an Extraordinary Human Being

Thanks for posting the wonderful pics of an awesome "lucky" guy.
Thank you for such a kind note, Diane. I thought the world of Paul along with many millions of fans just like me worldwide. He was a gift of God!
3 Magpies: Indeed...

A loss, a loss, a loss!
I had the great fortune of meeting him at Road Atlanta many years ago. A gentleman and committed to his racing enterprise.
He's a force that will be missed. I'm very sad he's gone.
damn... :-(
Great post Michael.
Paul Newman in the Sting is one of my all time favorite films.
We will miss him.
Thanks again.

great post! i figured you would put together an amazing tribute.
Michael,
You already know my feelings on this subject. Just another legend gone. I know that he will be missed. The days go on.
Bud: I agree. He was a model for all of us about being a Humanitarian and living it!
Kat: There's no more suffering. As DJ Davy b (who met Paul) posted over at his site, he lived his life on his terms and without any arrogance. Davy has a photo of Paul taking his Corvette racer out for the last time very recently on the track. It was a farewell to one of his many passions.
Glenn: So many wonderful performances, I hardly know where to start. I always enjoyed that he started with Method Acting then deviated from it with a combination of many styles. Quite a man!
Dari: Thank You. Paul was an amazing person.
I've not dropped by here for a while but when I heard the news I thought of you! Nice tribute.
dj davy b: You are very blessed to have met Paul and your photograph of his recent outing with the Corvette goes right to the heart of what made Paul so unique and wonderful. Thanks for sharing!
Sorlil: How thoughtful of you! Like many, I feel that Paul Newman easily transcended his own world to enter the world of children with serious illness. He made a very powerful difference in the lives of so many kids. So, while the world grieves, his Hole In the Wall Gang Camp in Connecticut, the Scott Newman Center in California, and Newman's Own Charities will continue to be the difference that makes a difference!
RIP Mr. Newman....
And I hope that you had a good weekend.....Just catching up..haven't really been on in a while.
Such a huge loss to the entire world of an extraordinary human being.
Jess: I've been unable to visit with the frequency I would like too, so no worries dear friend!
p m: Well said. He was an an actor who was among Brando, McQueen, Coburn, Bryner, Bronson, Gleason, and so many contemporaries that each gave us a feeling that the world actually made some sense. Tonight I'm feeling little of that reassurance. He is with The Lord now.
As I also posted in my blog..:
Great actor, great man, great person..Big loss
There are some fantastic photos in there...
I can never took at an egg and not think of Paul Newman.
I've seen all his movies many times and its hard to think of him as gone but his movies will live on forever.
Cool Hand Luke and Slap Shot were my favorites
Maria: You are always sweet and very genrous about Good People. And Paul Newman was the embodiment of what a Good Person really is! lol!!!
Martini: Yes, and Paul lived a full life with a full heart---with ALL of it. Again, I continue to go back to emphasize his work with Children. What a Legacy he has left for children who knew Paul "up close and personal" and those Children who will attend "Hole in the Wall Gang Camp" in New Haven. They will know that this camp was built by a man who knew that Loving Children who are less fortunate than we are is the key to a life wel lived! Thanks for your spirit Martini!
Walker: "Slap Shot" and all the underlining Paul admired from Lindsay Crouse's character. So many memorable lines in that film. I understand it had a special place in Paul's heart along with others such as "Winning" and of course, Joanne's radiant work in "Rachel, Rachel"!
