BACK AT THE FLAT!

It's been a busy Summer here at "The Flat"! I'll catch you up.
Last Wednesday night I finished up 8 months of physical therapy involving strength conditioning and we plan to phase-in a walking regimen I was forced to place on "hiatus" in early 2007. Previous to this, back in 2001, I began a "power-walking" program and built myself up to 5 miles per night, 6 nights a week. That blended in beautifully with my broadcasting schedule at the time. I worked in a very large market as a news anchor from 12 Noon to 8 PM, then changed clothes at the station and drove two miles to a beautiful four-story shopping mall with an ice skating rink inside. With two large oval laps per floor and plenty of invigorating visual scenery (many shops including a panoramic view of the ice skating rink on the Ground Floor) it was always something I looked forward to. By the end of this month, I'll be enrolled in a "Wellness Program" at the same facility I have been attending.

Someone asked me about "the flood" in my apartment of 9 days ago. Ah, just a mere memory as the carpet cleaners finished up the last bit of the restoration yesterday while I was at work. It was a little strange to walk in from a trip to the grocery store to find my desk chair placed atop my couch, but otherwise no worries.

Question: What does a guitarist do when Bud Buckley (who is a great music teacher in Venice, Florida) is not your neighbor? Answer: You search for a really good music teacher where you live! After speaking to several teachers, I found one to work with whose attitude and approach was in line with mine. But he is currently booked up. I am on the "backup list" hoping to replace a slot currently taken up by a person who never shows up. I've never understood this phenomenon of being a "no-show" for anyone and have often wondered how realtors put up with this level of rudeness. I guess it just makes you appreciate the nice people who DO take manners seriously! If you're a realtor, weigh in!

On the journalism side of life, I have three projects underway for Airways magazine--one just "wrapped up" for a future issue that involved my interview with a legendary CEO. A girl who travels a great deal and reads my Blog Page e-mailed me last week asking for my take on ranking some airlines in the United States, so I'll close with that for today, since that sounded fun.

I'm trying to get Bud to come here so I can steal some lessons from him.
As for strength conditioning... I much prefer power-chording to power-walking.
:)
You are so busy! But so well-organized Michael!
D-Man: Ah, yes I hear you my friend. But I prefer playing guitar standing up and jumping like Pete Townshend of The Who instead of using a cane to get to my guitar and then sitting down with it. Those days are thankfully gone. So, for me it's "Power walk to Power Chords!" ROCK ON D-MAN!
Morning, Patti: I've had the same thoughts about you and Maddie. How else could you find time to do her pigtails? lol, Patti!
That looks a good place to relax.
i wonder if the person that is paying for guitar lessons, but that never shows up, is getting really good at playing the guitar. because if i don't have to practice and can learn an instrument, i'd like to sign up too. no wonder that guy is booked.
Good grief! As if I don't feel bad enough for saying like almost daily
"OK-this is it...I'm starting my excercise routine today.I have it all mapped out, including the walking(well, not as much as you do)....BUT! Yes,there's always a BIG BUT in the workout conversation.lol(I KNOW...that was lame)
But no matter how I say "I'm putting my foot down TODAY and starting my excercise regiment"! Shortly after that,I get off work at 7 a.m.,and go across the street from my job and get 2 eclaires,a lemon donut and donut holes ...not to mention the cappaccino. Then I get sleepy after the all nighter @ work. Most of the time,I go home snooze a bit,and then do household stuff...by then the heat outside is about 300 degrees.lol...I've joined fitness programs before and split before time was up.Go figure?
Ok,for real......Damn,Michael,there is no hope. How will I live without my eclaires?
Then when I start working out...that s**** starts hurting, and I say WTF and quit.
Any tips I haven't already heard?I bought a bathing suit the other day. It's freakin' awesome. But I looked at the bottoms and they looked so large....so I thought...its the last pair so I'm sure they'll shrink a bit....and I'll be doggone!!! I put them on and they are almost G-Strings!(exxag.)I mean...dammmmn.Talk about denial, huh?LOL
UuGH! Where do you get your consistency?
15 miles wow
That's a fare piece of walking to do after work every day.
If you get bored at the mall walking you can probably create a following by throwing a brick through one of the shops but that would make is more of a run than a brisk walk LOL
jean-luc-picard: Captain: You & Bev have a standing invitation at the Guest house on one condition. Ensign Britney must stay behind (and hopefully under house arrest!). :D
Seraphine: He rocks! And he is very attuned to attitudes, comfort levels and otherwise tailoring his approach to each student. But I am phoning some others tonight as well. There are some really good resort and hotel lobby artists featured here in Phoenix. I KNEW you rocked! :)Those tennis shoes were definitely a sign!!! Rock On, Seraphine!!!
tammi: I had the benefit of 8 medical specialists at Mayo Clinic who networked me to other experts once I was outside the Mayo System. I learned a lot about diets and lifestyle and what literally damages and shortens our lives. The changes are up to us. We can have specialists, but they cannot make us set time aside and prioritize. So many things I do today are a 180 degree turn from what I did before. And it is a lifestyle change that builds you up not tears your down. I like keeping it simple. Jack LaLane may be 90 or 91 but he has a grasp on real life with his wife Elaine. I am aiming to live that long and that well! Lots of Love!!!:)
Walker: No bricks, my friend. That just isn't me. Did I say 15? I better go back and check on that-- I meant 5 miles a night--and only because of my work hours back then. Presently, I can begin getting in a walk before dusk. OPA!!!!:D))
by the bye, you were right.
i'm glad i used my frequent
flyer rewards for my trip to
kansas earlier this year.
i'm seriously considering
cancelling my united mileage
card and going for
hotel awards instead. you
give GREAT advice.
Seraphine: I'm glad that you concur.
The deregulated airline industry has become far less than Dr. Alfred Kahn (creator of the Airline Deregulation Act) professed in 1978 when President Carter believed it would be a cure-all and signed it into law. Yes, it has helped consumers in many ways. And while I'm no fan of ex-American Airlines CEO Bob Crandall, he is spot-on when he says "unfettered competition just doesn't work in the airline industry". The current economic model alone is unsustainable with oil at $30 per barrel of crude let alone free miles with crude oil at $130 per barrel. With substantially every major U.S. airline bleeding millions of dollars every 24 hours, it is only a matter of time before they quash this once nifty frill. I cashed in my US Airways miles and flew my Mom here in First Class comfort without knowing what the future is for US--even though I consulted with them on a project in 2004. I wish them well. But look out for you, Seraphine. See ya soon! :)
Sounds very lovely place;)..I wanna be there too!!
Lol!!
Book your travel, Maria! Better use those frequent flyer points while the airlines are still honoring them! :)
