JULY UPDATE ON GUNNER GILLESPIE!

Meet Gunner Gillespie, age 7!

Good Morning!
-
So many of you have been thoughtful enough to send me e-mails asking for an update on Gunner Gillespie. Well, I had dinner last evening with Gunner, age 7, his sister Garlynn, age 5, and their parents and my dear friends Gus and Janna. Gunner is in good spirits as he continues to receive treatments for a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, (DIPG) which is a cancerous tumor on the brain stem. Gunner is one of approximately 200 children in the United States who receive this diagnosis annually. He is a wonderful little boy who loves trains. In fact, his favorite movie is "The Polar Express" with actor Tom Hanks. Many e-mails ask me how to keep up with Gunner's updates.

Gunner's website on Caringbridge is: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/gunnergillespie. Gunner is from Marshall County, Kentucky. Now, here's what others are currently doing and even how you can contribute to help Gunner and his parents with their enormous medical expenses.

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA MARATHON 4 GUNNER FUND RAISER, NOV. 1ST
Patrick Cork of Vincennes, Indiana will be running a 26.2 mile marathon in Gunner's honor on November 1st, 2008. Here's Patrick: "As I train this summer, I am collecting "marathon donations" in the amount of $26.20 to help pay for Gunner's treatment. Every dollar collected makes my training just a little bit easier so please spread the word. Checks can be made payable to:
-
MARATHON 4 GUNNER
Old National Bank
909 12th Street
Lawrenceville, Illinois 62439
UPDATE: "There have been a number of people that have made $26.20 tribute donations for each of their healthy children. This is a great idea for those thinking of donating that have kids and /or grand kids of their own. Those of us who have children with no major health problems sometimes forget how blessed we are".

jean-luc picard: Gunner loves space ships and boats and buses. He has cars, cool planes and hot rods. His penny collection is proudly displayed on a hotel room table. I will show him your comment and he will be thrilled!

Bud: You are Pure Soul, my friend. Last night, I had the pleasure of taking photos of The Gillespies at sun set and we celebrated life with much laughter at the restaurant. I feel your positive vibes out here. Gunner is a fun and positive little boy and he loves to learn new things!

Hi Michael-sorry to be MIA for a bit, but I am trying to catch up.

I was delighted to read more about Gunner and all of the wonderful support he is receiving.

I'll bring my son by your blog in the morning and read about Gunner to him. He has quite a penny collection and I am positive he would love to send something along to help Gunner.

What a beautiful smile, I hope someday someone will come along who can find a cure for all of these cancers.
Thanks for the update Michael.

Glad to hear that Gunnar is doing well. Did you ever mention Dennis Puffet and the idea of reiki to assist in his recovery? I do wish more people would explore these things because while they don't come with guarantees, they often do help.

Raven: I'll mention this to Gunner's Mom. She is familiar with every cutting edge treatment there is and I am certain she will appreciate your concern with great warmth! :) lol to you Raven!!! Thanks for caring!!!!!

Thats a bright face.
I'm glad to hear he is doing well. I have stopped by his site a few times to look in.
It's hard seeing kids jhaving to struggle at this young age but it happens and we have to find ways to make sure it doesn't or at least combat it.
