FRIDAY MOVIE SUGGESTION NIGHT PRESENTS: "FOR YOUR EYES ONLY"!

Good Morning! You are in for a special treat. Today marks the very first time that MMC (Manning Movie Classics producers of "Friday Movie Suggestion Night") has decided to bring you a James Bond movie of unparalleled "Class". And that of course is my opinion of Roger Moore as my personal favorite Bond in his fifth outing as 007. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY is one of those Summertime movies that just fits. It followed the well-received but shall we say...overproduced MOONRAKER? Yes, and as I prepare our Martini's you'll find that Cubby Broccoli does a mid-course correction here and reels in Bond closer to Ian Flemings' vision. For example, we learn that Bond was married and widowed as he shows a side of himself never before seen during a visit to the cemetery. Action fans unite! I've brought you a suitable car chase here, and I will say it...a ski chase that exceeds ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE! There. I've said it. Moore is forever a Class Act from our dear friends "Across the Pond" and this film shows that he is not merely a comedic 007, but he can be a serious one too. This is a well paced story that invites you (and I, of course) to escape any doldrums that might inflict upon our Summer Season! Should you need proof, the lovely and talented Carole Bouquet is here with a risk that I'd personally like to see more of in movie making on the heels of a huge success from it's predecessor. John Glen makes his Bond directorial debut and must receive Kudos for getting it right. Oh, uh...one final story worth telling.

A Cincinnati AM Radio station D.J. preceded Sheena Easton's great Theme Song performance by inviting listeners to phone in and opine whether they liked the song or not. Capeesh? Now you know why I left Cincinnati. Let's get to The Cast: Roger Moore is "Bond....James Bond"; Carole Bouquet is Melina Havelock; Topol is played by Milos Columbo; Lynn-Holly-Johnson is Bibi Dahl; Julian Glover is "Aristotle" Kristanos (Bwahaha!); Cassandra Harris is Countess Lisl von Schlaf; Jill Bennett is Jacoba Brink; Lois Maxwell is Miss Moneypenny!; Desmond Llewellyn is "Q"!; Written by: Ian Fleming; Directed by John Glen; Screenplay by Richard Maibaum and Michael G. Wilson, with original music by Bill Conti. But before I leave, we have...
___

Another "first" for "Friday Movie Suggestion Night"! We'd like to recognize the talents of Uncredited "Girls at the Pool"!!! They are: Koko, Alison Worth, Viva, Chai Lee, Tula, Lalla Dean, Lizzie Warville and Evelyn Drogue (need I say it?): FOR YOUR EYES ONLY...
___
And now as I stand: I recall, "Shaken, not stirred".
(Even if it "bruises" the drink!)
Cheers!

Neat Movie Michael.

I also liked Roger Moore as "the saint" and in the TV series the persuaders.

Although I am a Sean Connery fan as well I think that every actor that played James Bond has brought something new and interesting to the part.

My personal favorite Bond film is "from Russia with love".

Although - every Bond movie I think was entertaining - and great fun to see.

Great post Michael

I never liked Roger Moore as Bond...too much comedy. Sean Connery was the best. George Lazenby was great in OHMSS, although few seem to like it.

Moonraker might have been well received, but in my opinion is the worst of the bond flicks. Drax was so monotonal and if the villain falls flat so does the movie.
Eyes Only is my favorite of the Roger Moore Bonds. The story was much more believable than Moonraker or Spy Who Loved Me. (Barbara Bach is my favorite Bond Girl of all time though)
We have a Bond marathon every year between Christmas and New Year.

I have seen all the Bond movies and the old ones are my favorites.
Personally I liked Casino Royal but it wasn't your average Bond movie either.

Loved the womens names and Jaws.

Maria: I was expecting an onslaught of women who have taken a shine to Sean Connery! lol!!!

Glenn: A good point! When a memorable actor such as Connery sets a character mold as he did with Bond, it is difficult for many to view that character through others that follow. Many thanks as always Glenn!!!

jean-luc picard: Well, of course I see your point. However, I will only add that Ian Fleming was very involved with new director John Glen's approach and on whole they eliminated three fourths of the puns and jokes in a "getting back to basics" mode. Bond style, of course!

p m: I like your idea of a Marathon and thank you for supporting me in my choice of a summer Bond feature! Barbara Bach is very interesting, yes!

Bud: I agree!!! :D

Seamus: HELLO TO YOU!!!!

Walker: I felt you would like my adding the credits to the "Girls at the pool"! :D)!! I also believe "Jaws" was with Roger at the unveiling of his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and he is most deserving of this honor!!!

Thomas! Nice to hear from you. But Roger ranks very low there! I still love that blog of yours on Bond puns!
