Last Thursday, just three days ahead of his 80th birthday, actor Roger Moore was awarded his Hollywood Star along the "Walk of Fame" in Los Angeles. Long overdue, Moore lamented that "Sadly, I had to retire from the Bond films," he said at the ceremony."The girls were getting younger and I was just getting too old." When his close friend Audry Hepburn died, Moore stepped in to take over her role as goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF. On October 9, 2003 Queen Elizabeth II knighted Moore for his humanitarian work worldwide. In 1999, he was awarded CBE (Commander Of The Most Excellent Order Of The British Empire). He received an Honorary Doctorate from Ryerson Polytechnic University in 1999 as well. Moore played British super-spy James Bond in seven films--taking over from Sean Connery in 1973 in "Live and Let Die" (with Paul McCartney and Wings performing the soundtrack). His final Bond film in 1985 was "A View to a Kill". Everyone these days has their favorite James Bond. For me it remains Roger Moore!

One of my favorite actors! :)
My wife still drools over Connery, but Moore has always been my favorite Bond. He had more charm and wit than any of the others, and "The Sphy Who Loved Me" is the best Bond film ever. Hard to believe they waited that long to him a star!
Seamus: Maybe it's a generational thing for me, but Roger Moore had that under-current for humor too.
p m prescott: You are thre first person to agree with me! Sean Connery's appearance is today of course quite different from 1957's first Bond movie. He is a terrific actor. I found it heartening that the tall character actor who often played the ghoul with Moore was on hand in L.A. with his arm around his co-actor. Tell your wife I saw Connery's home in L.A. (Beverly Hills of course)last month and it is under renovation. It has high picture windows aside the lavish wooden staircase. He was in Europe filming a movie as construction workers set up a fence around his home. Must be nice...:)
I love the Bond franchise. Of course I have my favorite, but they're all good.
He was such a great Bond and I loved him in that Western Series, what was it? Maverick? I'll have to look it up. Anyway, hard to imagine he's 80!
Katie: Aren't they great escape moves? :D
jlee: Roger played Simon Templar in the 1950's series "The Saint". Are you thinking James Garner?
he's 80??? good grief, my dad would have been the same age, and he wasn't hot.
my dad, i mean. not that he was hot.. you get what i mean.
i liked moore, but, i'm a connery gal, myself.
he was my fav bond too lol, ironically, my great uncle was called jimmy bond, but he is now long gone. great movies a... christmas day tradition in the uk.

It's amazing to me that Moore could be 80! I still think of him as a younger man. My how time flies. I've always been a Bond fan. It's a toss up between Moore and Connery for me-- both have their strong suits.
Quin: I'm always surprised how many Connery girls like you there are. Nevertheless, I refuse to shave my head and grow a moustache! :)
Snow White: I'll be looking for pictures of YOUR baby ASAP!
fleur de lisa: Yeah, that's true. I remember Connery's last film, "Never Say Never". Ha!
Roger looks really good for his age!
Morning Patti: "The name is Moore...Roger Moore!!":)
