"NOBODY PUTS BABY IN A CORNER"!
>An improvised scene that was left in the film
Can it really be 20 years ago that the movie "Dirty Dancing" struck a chord with the public who promptly fell in love with the story, the music, the dancing and the tale of uptown girl "Baby" (the beautiful Jennifer Grey) and bad-boy "Johnny Castle" (Patrick Swayze)? If you loved this feel-good movie, Lionsgate is releasing newly remastered prints plus a 30-minute bonus feature May 1st and 2nd in only 330 theaters in the United States, and 45 in Canada. On May 8th, a newly remastered soundtrack with a bonus DVD of five music videos, a photo gallery and even a karaoke version of the Oscar winning soundtrack "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" will also be released. And to think that the movie took more than 10 years to be made! Eleanor Bergstein wrote and co-produced the movie on a budget of $5 million and recalls worrying the film would be a flop. The film was based on her summer vacations to New York's Catskils. "We had no encouragement", she said. "We were told it would be out a weekend before it went to video". A May 8th DVD has an interview with Swayze and a tribute to the late Jerry Orbach who died in 2004. Forbidden romance and dreams that still lay ahead drive this film and ignite the passions and dreams within each of us. It's a great escape movie with an unmistakable magic. It's always special for me to see something endure that is positive in the world. And this film will thrill audiences forever!

Loves me some Jerry Orbach... but I have to say... I never saw the whole film and what I did see, I didn't like! How un-American am I?
:-)
Tara Lynn: Still hard to believe Jerry is gone and that it was 3 years ago! He was such a memorable person.
I was just talking to someone the other day about that movie AND our mutual admiration for Patrick Swayze!
I could watch that movie over and over, and be just as enthusiastic about it everytime!
Sharon: The Directors Cut is pretty amazing. I've always found Jennifer Grey a beautiful girl.
I still dream of the day that a man will fall in love with me while dancing the night away =)
This is one of my all-time fave movies. I did see it would be playing again here for those two nights in May. I may need to see that again!
Definitely hard to believe it's been 20 years. They need a sequel to DTWS called Dirty Dancing With The Stars. Ha...
Ally
Christi: Anything's possible, you know!
Ally: Seeing the original on a theater screen is just so much better than DVD! This was just magic. Jennifer Grey's screen test was quite moving.
I can remember seeing this film in the theatre when it first came out.
My best friend and I had no idea what the movie was about when we bought our tickets, we LOVED the movie.....we have talked about seeing it again together if it comes to a theatre near us.
Barngoddess: The only explanation I have is that after all the struggle to bring this movie to life, the producers ended up with a masterpiece! I fell hard for Jennifer Grey!
The movie “Dirty Dancing” is a favorite of mine. The music, the dance routines; the storyline; the romance. How I would like to be able to dance the night away to those magical tunes; the magic of it all. How inspiring to achieve dancing so eloquently. The TV show “Dancing with the Stars” has pushed the button just a little bit more and proving one can achieve it you set a goal and work toward it; fantasy can become reality.
Barbara Ann
Barbara Ann: I agree!
I could watch this movie ten times a day and learn something new each time. MY MOM AND I HAVE THE BIGGEST CRUSH ON PATRICK SWAYZE AND WE BOTH LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! IT IS HIS BEST MOVIE I HAVE SEEN!!!!
