THE BIG CHILL

OUR 2nd "FRIDAY MOVIE SUGGESTION NIGHT" OUTING IN 2007
_____
Many of you many not have thought much about this hugely popular movie about 7 friends from college in the 1960's who have gone their own ways. Suddenly, they are reunited by the shocking suicide of one of their group members they used to hang with and a widowed girlfriend (Meg Tilly) who is rather alienated by her youth to all that is going on around her. This is a movie about ghosts from the past in terms of life's dreams and aspirations shared with a group of very close-knit friends forced to re-examine where they wound up and what lies ahead in their lives. It's a movie that has an unforgettable soundtrack and Director Lawrence Kasdan handles this subject so well. I picked it because it is relevant in today's world filled with seeming apathy and bewilderment in general terms. This is also a movie of confirmation about the importance of friendship. Cast: Tom Berenger ....Sam Weber; Glenn Close....Sarah Cooper; Jeff Goldblum....Michael Gold; William Hurt....Nick Carlton;Kevin Kline....Harold Cooper; Mary Kay Place....Meg Jones; Meg Tilly....Chloe; JoBeth Williams....Karen Bowens; Don Galloway....Richard Bowens. 1984 Oscar Nominations:
Best Actress in a Supporting Role:
Glenn Close; Best Picture: Michael Shamberg; Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen: Lawrence Kasdan and Barbara Benedek.

OMG!!!! This is one of our favorite movies of all time! Talk about identifying with a film! :D

Somewhat shockingly, I've never seen the film. I wanted to. All my friends had seen it, and they raved about it. I read every review, added it to my list of must-see movies.

And then forgot it.

I need to find the DVD (or, given its age, the VHS).

Seamus: I think this still "touches a nerve" in all of us regardless of age. A great flick that is feel-good and realistic with great rock and roll!

Carmi: I think you will laugh at Jeff Goldblums assessment of the outdoors! Will be dropping by!!! Happy New Year my friend!!!!

Puss in Boots: Yeah, well. I picked it because it's so cold out that this is a spiked cider and flop on the couch kind of movie, plus it holds up. Meg Tilly's character is touching!!

Hellbunny: Yes! Very much so!! It "stays with you". lol!

Ally: Let me know how you like it. I KNOW you will just love it!

ahh, one of THE BEST ensemble casts ever. On my list of favorites - one I'm known to quote often. I recently left a blog comment "No one ever said life was fair; at least no one said it to me." but I'm not sure they got it.

Can you believe I've never seen this movie?? I'll have to run out & rent it!!

Bud: I can't wait to read your reaction!

Oracle: Isn't Michele fun! Nice of you to stop by. I'll be by too!

Kalisah: You know, I DO recall that Mary Kay Place said that. You're right, I feel it was a lost message too!

Heather: Perfect movie for the weather we are having. Hope you like the soundtrack too!

I first saw this movie about a year ago and loved it. I liked the music in it the most, although the acting and storyline were great also. Sometimes I just connect more with music.

On a side note, why did I think you weren't blogging anymore? At any rate, I'm glad to see that you are. :-)

I love this movie. I have watched it dozens of times.

The first time I saw this movie I was at Michigan State University and was too young to understand the message that I so clearly get now!

I've seen this film many times and felt I was reliving part of it this fall when I saw many friends I haven't seen in years at the funeral (and gathering afterwards) of a friend.

I remember the first time I saw it, when it came out, I was dating a woman 6 years who was more of the "Big Chill generation" than me--it felt weird watching it and talking about it later.

Sage: Yeah, I relate about the funerals. That's the only time I see school mates from the old neighborhood here. Sad in a way!

That's a great film to watch. I wonder what it would be like to have that film set in today's age, what would be different?
