SABRINA!

This is the authentic "Sabrina" (1954) starring a girl who melts my heart: Audrey Hepburn. The supporting cast is amusing: Humphrey Bogart and William Holden as the Larrabee brothers competing for the chauffeur's daughter's (Hepburn) affections. This has to be one of the finest Cinderella stories of all time--no offense to Julia Roberts. Similarly here, Sabrina changes into a worldly and sophisticated woman. Her influence changes Linus (Bogart) from a workaholic, and David (Holden) into a responsible man.
_____

Sabrina is a charming romantic comedy from the incomparable Billy Wilder. There's some tension here with her and the man she loves who is David Larabee, one of two sons of the rich family that employs her father; they don't exactly run in the same social circles.
_____
She leaves for Paris to attend a cooking school and when she returns two years later she comes back as a women with beautiful clothes and a completely new look and personality. Her beauty and maturity causes David (Holden) to fall for her even though he is engaged and his family disapproves. To get rid of the girl David's brother (Bogart) begins to hatch a plot to send her back to Paris yet he soon finds himself falling in love with her as well! Fun, eh? This is not only a wonderful "feel good" film, it is a great romantic comedy. Throughout her life, Audrey Hepburn was the epitome of exceptional beauty, Class, and Generosity. During the last two weeks of her life--in pain with Cancer--she never once complained and continued her trips aboard on behalf of Unicef. She was an extraordinary woman every man dreams of falling for and I hope you'll enjoy it!

Audrey Hepburn also stars in my favorite movie version of Robin Hood; Robin and Marian, from 1976.
She plays an ageing Marian and Sean Connery plays Robin Hood.
(You must think I have some sort of Sean Connery fixation :-)

I first saw Sabrina when I was about 13 or 14, and its what got me hooked on "old" movies. There's no one better than Audrey...

I have to agree, this one is very definitely a classic in the true sense. They really don't make them any bettter anymore.

I like both this and the remake, Michael but whereas the original has strong performances all around, the remake had a phone-in from Harrison Ford that undercut the whole movie. Audrey Hepburn was one in a million though for some reason I've often wondered what Leslie Caron would have done with the role.

Thomas: I've consulted PM Blairs office and they inform me that fixations are not against the law. When an eyebrow was raised on our Videoconference call, I told them that I preferred the word "expert" in Bond films. The official I spoke with (who shall remain nameless) said only "Yes, well all right". So you are in the clear!

D-man: Watch how cool Bogart is. That's what we sngle guys need out here in the "Real World". He's great!

Lisa: I'll have to come over and see how the trip was/is going!

Denny: Kind of like Denny Shane. As Orson Welles once said, "The writing of a good book or the making of a fine wine...takes time. That's why Paul Mason...well you get the gist. Thanks Denny!!

Utenzi: Wow! It sure would have been different to say the least! Good to hear from you,Utenzi!

Sabrina is my favorite movie ever. I have both versions and like them both for different reasons.

Teresa: I usually like the originals. Although she's kooky, if they asked me to reprise Harrison Ford's role in "Six Days Seven Nights" I'd do it with Anne Heche just because she looked cute.
(Before filming I'd ask her not to talk to me about "Celestia"!)

That was a good movie. I prefer the old ones better than the remakes. Some of the remakes are okay, but I guess I'm just a sentimental fool. I like nostalgia. Am I showing my age here? ;-)

Those old actresses like Hepburn, and the rest are unique! Even the actors like Bogie, Heston, Connery, McQueen......
they are giants in their time. Love em all.

Dear Tutu: We're not getting older-we're getting BETTER! You recognize Class as I do. Thank God we still have a few left. Paul Newman, Robert Vaughn, Sean Connery, Jacqueline Bissett. I'll tell you something I noticed. Watch the body language and facial expressions in response to a line tossed at one actor from another. Now compare today. I wish Larry King would have an Hour Show remembering Steve McQueen. Here's the panel I'd bring in: Robert Vaughan, Neille Adams (First Wife), Robert Culp, Don Gordon, Bud Ekins, Carey Loftin, Chad McQueen, Barbara Minty (Last Wife). By the way: Ali MacGraw is back! She's on Broadway and looks great! I'd like to see her "Comeback". God, if anyone deserved it! lol Tutu! See you Friday!!

Excellent choice in panel, Michael. Here's wishing Ali best wishes on Broadway! That's great!

Tutu: As a man I must confess, Tutu. She was striking. When I saw "The Getaway" I thought to myself, 'If she said come along, let's go' I wouldn't look back!

"Sabrina" is one of my all-time fave movies!!! I agree w/ you about Audrey Hepburn. Nice post.
P.S. I like the addition of the music you're listening to on your posts. As you know, I title my post with a song title, linked to the lyrics, and it somehow ties in with the post subject.
