ROSA PARKS 1913-2005
On December 1, 1955--before many of us were even born, Rosa Parks boarded a city transit bus in Montgomery, Alabama. She paid her fare and sat down. As Coretta Scott King wrote, "There was no hint that anything would occur that would signal the dawning of a new day in that city. But she was also the secretary and youth advisor of the Montgomery Chapter of the NAACP. That organization had protested the inhumane treatment of blacks so often that Parks was well-known to bus drivers, who would sometimes pass her by rather than allow her to board the bus". When Parks was ordered to stand to allow a white passenger her seat, she was soft-spoken and said "No, I will not stand up". The driver told her, "I'm going to have you arrested". She replied, "You may do that".
December 1, 2005 is a special date. We will all celebrate 50 years of this courageous woman's decision to make a stand on Principle. I'll close by quoting Mrs. Scott-King again. "Let us honor Rosa Parks, not only with words of tribute but also with renewed dedication to end racism, sexism and all forms of bigotry, and by following her still-radiant lodestar to guide us through the freedom struggles for the future."
God Bless Rosa Parks.

Good post. Thanks.
Amen, Bro.
Today, we need the same spirit to eradicate religious discrimination and extremism...
Yes, God may bless Rosa Parks
Thanks to Rosa Parks, and others, we've come so far...
...and yet still not far enough.
Great post.
Michael hi!
Amen to that. Rosa Parks is a shining example that no act is too little for a good cause. Her case is also an example of how powerful media could be, and how it could help in changing the world for the better. A reminder that with great power comes great responsibilities.
I hope too, that all forms of bigotry end soon.
God bless Rosa Parks... amen to that too.
great post.
Thanks Michael.
Dcs: Welcome! And thanks for stopping by!!
Bud: You bet!
Hasan: Yes. Would't it be great if people of all cultures could find common ground in the family of man?
Lisa; Well spoken!
Asian Smiles: Too often those who have little power shoulder great responsibilities. And those with all the power shoulder none. Thanks for your visit and kind words!!!
YES!!!
Sadly, we have a long journey still ahead, but Rosa Parks was one of those brave people who bravely led the foundation. Excellent post.
green-eyed lady: You reminded me of a line the late actor Carroll O'Connor used in his favorite role as Sheriff Gillespie in the TV series "In the Heat of the Night". He said: "These things take time". Education is key for us all in any endeavor. We'll get there!
That one small lady on a bus could start such a huge ripple of change is more than inspirational. I hear so often from folks that they're "only one person" and what could they possibly do to change anything and "what difference could one person make (?)" and what's the use of speaking up or voting, they'd only get shot down or outvoted by a lot of other folks. To them I say "Rosa Parks..." ~:^)
